Are there any good photography competitions around at the moment to enter? I’ve never really entered any form of photography competition before, but after taking a pretty good snap whilst on holiday, this might be my first time. I’ve looked on a few sites but the they don’t seem to be that decent. Newspaper competitions preferably. Cheers in advance.

You can only go so far with a point and shoot camera. SLR is the best way to go. You can get a Nikon d40 for just under 500$. However, if it’s more than what you can afford, the next best way to go would be to buy used. There are lots out there. Research and see if you can find a good one. Megapixel will also only take you so far. It’s about technique, lighting and know what to shoot and when. I’ve taken great pics with both my cameras, one is 10.5 MP and the other is 12.5 MP. In the end, It’s about what you do with that camera. Good luck
